FACE

Sydney’s recommended choice for cheek implants, eyelid rejuvenation and more

There is a range of face surgeries available at Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Australia. Whether you want cheek implants, a brow lift or something else, our expert team will deliver great results.

EYELID REJUVENATION

The skin around our eye area is very thin, so the effects of the sun, aging and lifestyle can quickly cause it to loosen, sag or wrinkle.

Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid rejuvenation removes sagging skin to create a naturally tighter appearance and a more youthful look. A relatively straightforward cosmetic procedure, it can leave you looking years younger, although eyelid surgery will not dramatically alter your appearance.

Best suited for patients in good physical health, eyelid rejuvenation is usually carried out on patients over 35 years old. It is possible, however, to have the surgery at a younger age if the appearance of your eyes bothers you, or if you have heavy bags under your eyes.

The procedure

Eyelid rejuvenation is performed as a day surgery, although a short hospital stay may be necessary. Depending on the case, the patient may require local or general anaesthetic. Scarring will vary depending on your individual case, however Dr Tew will make every effort to keep the scars as minimal as possible.

It is possible to combine blepharoplasty with other procedures, such as a brow lift, to give an overall youthful appearance. Blepharoplasty can successfully treat:

  • Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the eyes
  • Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Droopiness of the lower eyelids
  • Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid
  • Eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, and gives a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes.

If the excess skin of the upper eyelids obstructs vision, a rebate from Medicare is possible.

    RHINOPLASTY

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure which reshapes the nose and improves its overall appearance. As a focal feature, alterations to the nose can affect the overall look of your face and can improve facial symmetry.

From reducing the size of the nose, to narrowing or widening the width, there are various options within rhinoplasty. The surgeon can also improve the tip of the nose, or remove an unwanted bump, while crooked or curved noses can be straightened and made more symmetrical.

    The procedure

Rhinoplasty usually takes between one and two hours and the patient may be under general or local anaesthetic depending on individual requirements. Side effects are generally contained to swelling and bruising around the eyes although they quickly subside. Reduction in the swelling of the nose takes more time and, in some cases, numbness may be present for a number of months after the procedure.

    BROW LIFT

As you age, your forehead and brow can descend before the rest of the face, making your eyes appear tired or heavy. Brow lifts raise the eyebrows to a more alert and youthful position and helps to:

    • Minimise creases that develop across the forehead
    • Improve frown lines and vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows
    • Reposition a low or sagging brow that is hooding the upper eyelid

Brow lifts can target problem areas such as expression lines, signs of aging around the brow and sagging brows. A brow lift is also appropriate for treating certain inherited traits.

      The procedure

There are a variety of ways to elevate the brows and correct aging changes in the forehead area. During your initial consultation, we will closely examine your forehead and upper eyelid region, noting the muscle activity when you assume various facial expressions. The surgical technique recommended to you will depend on many factors, such as the position of your eyebrows, the amount of excess upper eyelid skin and the height of your hairline.

Patients may experience numbness and mild swelling, but any discomfort should be minimal and easily controlled by medication. Brow lifts may be performed simultaneously with other procedures, including the MACS Facelift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension lift) , otherwise known as a mid-section face lift.

      SMAS FACE LIFT

An SMAS facelift can improve otherwise permanent signs of aging such as:

      • Sagging jowls around the face
      • Sagging in the mid facial area (cheeks)
      • Fat that has fallen lower on the face
      • Loose skin and fat deposits underneath the chin and neck
      • Deep creases caused by pulling of excess skin around the mouth

        The procedure

The SMAS, or Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System, is a layer of muscle and fibrous tissue that runs from the neck into the face, and fuses to the cheekbones and the scalp. During a SMAS facelift, the skin is separated from the SMAS layer, which is dissected and tightened so the patient gets a full, lifted result that is long-lasting. Any excess skin is also trimmed and re-draped.

        MACS FACE LIFT

The new MACS face lift – the Minimal Access Cranial Suspension lift - is an innovative face lift procedure with fewer incisions. Less invasive, the MACS face lift can help patients with early signs of aging, recapture a natural, relaxed look. Many younger patients who want to stay ahead of the aging process are also choosing to undergo this procedure.

        The procedure

This is a less invasive surgical procedure than the SMAS lift as there is less dissection of the skin. The surgical incisions are also shorter and are only made in your temple and in front of your ears. Excess fat can then be removed and the muscles tightened using permanent stitches. The MACS lift only takes around three hours to complete and the possibility of scarring is also greatly reduced from a traditional face lift.

Many patients have also reported feeling more confident following their surgery. The positive effects of a MACS face lift will last around five years. The longevity of your face lift will depend on many factors, including the condition of your skin, whether you smoke or drink, how old you are when you undergo surgery, exposure to sunlight, diet and natural aging.

        CHEEK IMPLANTS

Cheek implants elevate the cheekbones and give your face a more symmetrical, youthful appearance. Cheek augmentation surgery is one of the most popular types of facial surgery requested within our practice and Dr Tew uses implants to improve and enhance facial contours.

Cheek implants will often help in creating a more harmonious balance to your face and overall facial features, so you feel better about the way you look. A weak cheek structure can make your face appear drawn and gaunt. It may also give the appearance of a ‘fleshy’ lower face. The end result should be a balanced relationship between the structures of the face.

        The procedure

Cheek augmentation is an operation that usually takes one and a half hours to complete using a general anaesthetic and normally includes an overnight stay at the hospital. Problems rarely occur, but you need to be informed about such possibilities. Dr Tew will spend time with you discussing all of the implant options available and choosing which one would be right for you during your initial consultation.

        EAR RESHAPING

For children, ears that stick out can be a source of teasing and embarrassment. Ear reshaping, also known as otoplasty, is a simple procedure normally performed on children at around the age of eight, but can also be performed on adults.

Otoplasty is generally used to correct ears which stick out too far from the head, but can also be used to correct ears that have failed to develop correctly. Ear reshaping surgery is usually performed under a general anaesthetic as day surgery.

Who is a candidate for ear reshaping surgery?

        • People who have ears that stick out
        • People who have a very large conchal bowl (inside the ear)
        • People who are not happy with the general shape of their ears
        • People whose ears have a cauliflower appearance (usually through contact sport)

          The procedure

An otoplasty procedure usually takes between one to two hours to perform, though it may take longer if the procedure is very complicated. The method used to perform the surgery on the ear will depend on the specifics of the problem.

Though there are a number of different approaches which address this procedure, the most common one involves the reshaping or removing of some of the cartilage behind the ear. After opening the back of the ear, Dr Tew will either remove some of the cartilage or fold it on to itself and stitch it together. Since the work is done on the back of the ear, any scars are usually faint and can be hidden in the creases. This procedure offers dramatic, immediate results that will last a lifetime.

When discussing any of these treatments with Dr Tew, it’s important to discuss your expectations and be mindful that the goal of any type of cosmetic surgery is improvement, not perfection.
