Providing Tummy Tucks Surgery in Sydney (Abdominoplasty)
After having children, do you feel that no matter how many sit-ups you do, you just can't tighten your abdominal wall or the excess skin and fat of your stomach? Sometimes after childbirth the muscles of the abdominal wall separate and no amount of exercise can bring them back together. A form of plastic surgery called abdominoplasty, otherwise known as a tummy-tuck, is most likely to correct this for you. During this surgery, the skin and underlying muscles of the stomach are tightened and repositioned. Abdominoplasty can give you the toned, taut, flat stomach that exercise cannot.
The best candidates for a tummy tuck are patients who are in good shape, but with loose abdominal skin. If there is a large fat accumulation on the abdominal wall, especially along the upper part, liposuction may be required as a primary procedure before abdominoplasty to remove the fatty layer.
Women whose abdominal muscles and skin have been stretched out from multiple pregnancies, as well as people who have a loss of skin elasticity due to age or weight fluctuations, are excellent candidates for abdominoplasty. Women who are planning future pregnancies may be advised to wait, as the vertical muscles in the abdomen that are tightened during surgery will separate again during subsequent pregnancies.

Abdominoplasty is performed under general anaesthetic. The most common technique used involves an incision made across the lower abdomen, extending to the hip on each side. Dr Tew will tighten the vertical muscles in your stomach by pulling them close together and stitching them into position. Extra skin and fat is also removed. Complications from abdominoplasty are rare, but like any surgery there are some risks. Dr Tew will discuss with you in detail the possible side effects such as scarring during your consultation.
If you have been considering an abdominoplasty, schedule a consultation with Dr Tew. We can then determine together whether you are a good candidate for the surgery and discuss possible outcomes with you.
