Breast Reduction

Breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) decreases breast size. This surgery involves the removal of fat, tissue and skin from the breasts to bring them into proportion with the rest of the body.

Breast reduction surgery is undergone by many women who are tired of enduring the discomfort of heavy breasts. Large breasts can be physically uncomfortable, cause neck ache and back ache and can have a significant impact emotionally.

Teenagers with abnormally large breasts, women whose breasts have grown with weight gain, and post-menopausal women whose breasts have sagged, are all candidates for breast reduction surgery. The most common concerns of women requesting breast reduction are:

  • Back, neck and shoulder discomfort or pain
  • Poor posture
  • Skin Irritation
  • Inability to exercise or play sport as a result of breast size
  • Feeling self-consciousness, embarrassment or shy because of breast size
  • Difficulty in buying clothing due to imbalance in body proportion

By correcting excessive breast weight, size and droopiness, after surgery the stress large breasts place on the body is relieved. Better proportion can be achieved while preserving sufficient breast tissue to retain femininity. This surgery has given many of our patients increased confidence and has improved their quality of life.

A Breast Reduction usually involves a Breast Lift. Breast Reduction surgery does leave permanent scars in locations normally covered by a bra or bathing suit. The scarring becomes less obvious over a period of six to twelve months.
