It is possible to have breast reconstruction at the same time as the cancer operation, or many years later. During the surgery, the breast may be reconstructed with breast implants or your own tummy tissue (if this is the case the patient has a ‘tummy tuck’ at the same time). It may be necessary for the other breast to be adjusted to give the best symmetrical result.
