Face lift procedures aim to improve the visible signs of aging by removing excess skin and fat, while tightening the underlying muscles of the face and neck. An SMAS face lift, otherwise known as a full face lift, is suitable for patients with a saggy neck and jowls.
The face is the first area of the body where the visible signs of aging are most noticed. This is because the skin on your face is the most exposed to things such as UV exposure, wind and other lifestyle factors. These changes can sometimes make you look older than you are.
An SMAS facelift can improve otherwise permanent signs of aging such as:
The SMAS, or Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System, is a layer of muscle and fibrous tissue that runs from the neck into the face, and fuses to the cheekbones and the scalp. During a SMAS facelift, the skin is separated from the SMAS layer. The SMAS is dissected and tightened, so that the patient gets a full, lifted result that is long lasting. Any excess skin is also trimmed and re-draped.
As no two faces are the same, Dr. Tew will customise your face lift procedure to your individual needs. With an emphasis on achieving natural looking results, Dr. Tew is able to produce a relaxed, fresh appearance while preserving and enhancing the natural contours of your face.
During your initial consultation with Dr. Tew, it is important that you openly and honestly discuss your goals and expectations about looking and feeling better after surgery, and keep in mind that the desired result is improvement, not perfection.
