DERMAL FILLERS
Dermal fillers are products that are placed into the skin or lips to give a filling effect and can be used to treat everything from lines and wrinkles, to depressed scars. They can also enhance cheekbones, enlarge lips or smooth the contour of an uneven nose.
Other fillers work by stimulating your skin’s cell production to give volume and lifting effects. Dermal or facial fillers are commonly used to treat areas in the upper and lower part of the face and are ideal for removing:
- Nose to mouth lines
- Cheek lines
- Lip lines and lip enhancement
The procedure
A dermal filler is a natural sterile clear gel that is injected into the skin to replace the naturally present synthetic ground substance that is lost as the skin ages. The filler is injected, usually without the need for local anaesthetic, into the worrisome lines to plump them out. The filler remains in the skin where it binds water to produce a lift and firmness to the treated areas. For lip enhancement, a local anaesthetic injection is usually given to remove any discomfort.
There are numerous fillers available, each working in different ways. Unfortunately TGA rulings prevent us from referring to these products by name. Temporary fillers usually last from six to 12 months and need top-ups to maintain the look they achieve for you.Dr Tew uses a variety of different dermal fillers depending on the area to be treated and the desired results.
Dermal fillers are safe with a low incidence of allergic reaction. There is a very small possibility of allergic reaction, which will be discussed with you when you visit the clinic for a consultation. You can expect some degree of redness and swelling after the treatment. This usually clears up within 1-2 days so we recommend that you don’t have the treatment directly before an occasion. The dermal treatment usually takes around 30 minutes to complete.
ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS
As we age, overactive muscle movement gradually wears away the healthy cells that keep the skin plump, causing it to crease and wrinkles to appear. Sun exposure, smoking and the breakdown of supporting structures (such as elastin fibres) also contribute to wrinkles.
Anti-wrinkle injections can combat both fine lines and also deep wrinkles, fixing:
- Frown lines between the eyes
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet
- Migraine and tension headaches
An improvement can be seen within days and may last up to 6 months, although results may vary.

The procedure

FAT INJECTIONS
Fat injection, sometimes known as a fat transfer procedure, is the technique used to move fat from one area of the body to another.

Your own body fat can be used to fill lips, nasiolabial folds, provide definition to cheeks or to the jaw line or to fill any depressed or scarred areas of the face. Fat injections is a procedure that can help improve these various signs of aging.

The procedure
Because fat injections use your own body fat, an allergic reaction is unlikely. As with any cosmetic procedure, there is always a small possibility of infection and other complications, although these are rare.
The results of fat injections can be long lasting. The amount of time between injections depends on the injection site and your body’s own ability to reabsorb the fat. It is necessary to overcorrect the deformity to allow for some absorption by the body. Usually the fat that remains at four months will be the final result achieved.
LIP ENHANCEMENT
Lip enhancement creates fuller, plumper lips and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. Lips may be injected with natural proteins or a semi-permanent dermal filler.
